Writing a book is MUCH easier than getting the thing published. PICKING THE COVER is one of the hardest parts.

Remember how hard it was to pick your "Senior Photo" a hundred years ago in High School? This is worse. MUCH worse!

Before you can pick a cover photo, you've got to get a picture made and I was lucky to work with truly the best team in the business for the photo session. It's a pain in the neck to get a picture made, so we decided to kill two birds with one stone and do publicity photos for Inside Edition at the same time. Thomas Nelson Publishers got their cover photo.

I felt like I was trying out for America's Next Top Model!

We ended up with more than 1,000 pictures to choose from! And that was after they took out the obvious rejects like closed eyes and dorky expressions! YIKES!

Check out just a few of the contenders for the Thank You Power cover. Feel free to 'vote' for your favorite! Maybe there is still time to change it!

When Choosing a Book Cover You MUST Remember:
  • The picture is supposed to "pop"
  • The cover should convey a sense of what's inside the book
  • The cover should "draw" people to pick the book up
  • The copy should share enough to "intrigue" but not give it all away
  • MOST IMPORTANT: The Author should NOT look FAT!
#1- This is cool 'cause it's what I usually look like. The consensus was it was too trendy. (It's really an ORANGE shirt! See #8)
#2-This came close, but I kept turning my head sideways to read to subtitle along the left edge. (I DO like how big they made my name!)
#3 & #4-These are my absolute favorites, but they tell me it looks like a "chic book" if we use it. I'll figure out somewhere to use these pix!
#5-Is a little too much biker babe if you ask me. I'm not so keen on wearing that leather jacket.
#6-Definitely screams POWER, but it's kind of 'prissy anchor lady.' I LOVE the hair though!
#7-I call this the Al Capone Shot! That wall reminds me of the Valentine's Day Massacre!
#8-I like everything about this picture, but they say this top will go out of style & we hope the book won't! Oh well!
#9 & 10-I like both of these and we might switch from the picture you see on the galley. To me, they say this gal knows something good that I ought to find out about! I DO! Thank You Power!
